How To Apply For A Charles County Business License (ABL)

  1. Contact the FARU to request a Charles County ABL application package, providing a contact person's name, company name, phone number and complete mailing address.
  2. Completed applications must contain an original, notarized signature and a copy of your State of Maryland Security Systems Agency License. Please be certain to note at the bottom of the first page the numbers of residential and non-residential customers you have in Charles County. Return your completed application and $50 check made payable to Charles County Government to: FARU, 10425 Audie Lane P.O. Box 2150 La Plata, Maryland 20646.
  3. Title 18 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, enacted October 1, 1997, requires alarm businesses be licensed by the Maryland State Police (MSP). The FARU coordinates issuance of our local ABL with the MSP to ensure alarm company compliance with this state law. To expedite the ABL application process, please attach a copy of your State of Maryland Security Systems Agency License. If you are not properly registered with the MSP, please contact the MSP License Service Section directly at (410) 799-0191, to obtain instructions for registering. You may also obtain a # MSP Form 29-70 License and Permit application (dated 1/00) from your local MSP Barracks. It is recommended that you complete the MSP registration process prior to submitting your Charles County ABL application. Charles County ABLs will not be issued until confirmation is received of your State of Maryland Security Systems Agency License number.
  4. Upon the issuance of your Charles County ABL, you will be provided the quantity of registration forms indicated on your ABL application to register your Charles County customers.
  5. For questions regarding electrical permits and low-voltage electrical permits, please contact the Charles County Planning and Growth Management Permits Office at (301) 645-0692 or (301) 870-3935.
